There are two types of strategies people use when launching on Product Hunt.
- Unveil a brand new product/project for the first time.
- Wait until the product/project is more mature and established so you have a better chance of securing the #1 product of the day.
Most people focus on the first strategy. There are benefits for the latter.
A number of successful creatives waited:
- Anne-Laure Le Cunff waited until she had 2’000 subscribers before she launched Maker Mag
- Andrea Bosoni waited a year before he launched Zero to Marketing
- Harry Dry waited until he had 1000 email subscribers and 1000 twitter followers. He also said that didn’t want to waste his “turn” with the very first iteration of his site.
Benefits
Waiting allows you to nurture the community before launch.
The team behind Typedream ran a private beta for 3 months before launching on Product Hunt. They ended up as product of the day, week and month. They shared more about the experience in a Twitter thread.
